News
26th July - Just a little reminder about our Autumn Derby Showjumping on 19th September. Hopefully schedules will be available soon. Please check back here for updates or join our mailing list to be sent a schedule. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting day with a challenging course in our derby arena.
7th July - Well what a day for Show day 2010. We would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who came along to support us on such a wet blustery day - from competitors to judges to helpers we really do appreciate your dedication. As always we have to thank our family and friends for giving up their day to come along and help make things go smoothly - we couldn't run the show without your help. Unfortunately we had to make the decision on the day to cancel the showjumping for safety reasons but we carried on with the showing classes and were deligthed with the quality brought forward for the classes. Congratulations to Alison Morran and Pentrefelin Darby Bussle for taking the Jasper Supreme Championship and to Ann Dunlop with a Dash of Class standing Reserve.
30 June - Preperations are well under way for the show on Sunday. Judges have been confirmed and we are pleased that Miss N Luti will be judging in Ring 1 and Mrs J Singleton will be judging in Ring 2.
28 June - Busy weekend for Burnockmill with Rhoswen Rebel competing at the Royal Highland Show in his first Horse of the Year Show qualifier. Absolutely delighted to be placed 5th amongst very strong competition.
9th June - Schedule now available for the 4th July show. See events page to download.
24th May - What a difference the good weather makes!! Both foals are doing very well and are loving being out in the sunshine. Here's a few updated photos of them.

12th May - We are very pleased to announce the arrival of our 2nd, and final, foal for 2010. Welsh D mare Emma, Glencarno Solitaire, produced a lovely black filly at 1.30am this morning. Both mum and foal are doing well and we are lookimg forward to introducing them to Annie and foal.
We have also been busy showing Rebel in the last few weeks after some time off. His jumping has come on leaps and bounds and he competed in his first Open workers at Ayr show on Saturday. This class was a qualifier for the Royal International Horse Show so the course was big, scary and technical. He jumped round confidently with just one pole down and ended up 7th in a strong class.

29th April - We have been very busy here at Burnockmill recently with lots of usual spring time activities - fields are getting rolled and sorted for summer, horses have moved to summer paddocks, foal watch (still one more expected very soon) and attending shows. In adddition to this we have horses in for schooling - ridden by Alison Morran - and we also have a number of horses coming to stay for Auchinleck Horse trials in a few weeks time.
6th April - It is with much regret that we have taken the decision to cancel our show scheduled for the 4th May. There are a number of factors that have influenced our decision. We had carefully chosen our show dates a couple of years ago so as to not clash with other shows, especially those with qualifiers.
Unfortunately, this year, a couple of shows have been re-arranged for the same weekend as ours. This in addition to the usual weather worries, foals being due, Julie being busy showing our Stud stock and other little factors, means that we didn’t feel that it would be viable to go ahead with the show at the expense of other activities.
On the bright side we will now focus our energies on making our 4th July show bigger and better offering more classes with qualifiers and more fun. And to that end, we would appreciate any suggestions you may have for classes etc that you would like to see included. As usual the show will be in aid of the Ayrshire Hospice and we hope to raise even more money than usual for this worthwhile charity.
We would like to apologise to those of you who had already planned to come along in May. We appreciate the support of all of our competitors and helpers and look forward to seeing you in July.
4th April - Burnockmill Brigadoon (Barney) went to his very first show at Ingliston Equestrian Centre for the NPS Scotland Spring show. We are delighted that he came 3rd in a very strong yearling large breed class. He behaved himself very well all day and we are looking forward to his furture show career.

2nd April - Well Annie was very kind and produced a lovely bay colt at around 9pm 1st April. All went very smoothly and little Chuckles (April Fools connection beginning with a C??) was up and bouncing about within the hour. Both mum and foal are doing great and Annie is definitely very proud of her new arrival.

25th March - We are eagerly awaiting our first foal for 2010. Annie, Welsh D, is due around 1st April to Welsh C stallion Parvadean Replay. Annie is looking great, she seems to really suit motherhood and always looks fab when in foal and while nursing. She is showing all the signs of being ready to foal anytime so the camera is set up and night watch has started. Hopefully we will have the pitter patter of tiny hooves soon.

10th March - We are in the process of organising our May show schedule which should be finalised and available by the end of this month. We always try to organise the schedule to enable competitors to compete in a number of classes so if you have any suggestions as to classes you would like to see included then please contact us with details. We will endeavour to include whatever classes we feel will be well supported.
23rd Feb - Despite the cold weather we have had lately the show season has well and truly started for us. Rebel has started the season well and in 2 outings has had 3 2nds, 1 1st and 2 reserve champions. We have a busy season planned for him including ridden flat classes and working hunters. Other than Rebel we have Barney, Bambi, Maddi and possibly Maisie to comeout inhand this season, none have been shown before so we may have some exciting times ahead. Hopefully we will have plenty good news to post on here to keep everyone up to date with their progress.
15th February - We have a new addition to our ponies here at Burnockmill and this one is a wee bit different. Meet Maisie, a 4yo TB mare, we are hoping that she will produce some nice Part Bred Welsh foals for us in the future. We hope to cover her with either our C stallion Rhoswen Rebel, or our homebred 3yo D colt Burnockmill Kappilano. Please go to the Stud page for more info on our breeding stock.
3rd February - Check out the For Sale page for details of some ponies we have for sale. Also the Stud page has been updated to show our current breeding stock.
19th January - Well its that time of year again when we start looking forward to and preparing for the coming competition season. As usual we will be aiming to run 3 shows here at Burnockmil this year, 2 mixed Open shows in aid of the Ayrshire Hospice and our fun Derby Showjumping show. So far we have raised over £1000 for the Ayrshire Hospice and we would like to continue to support this worthwhile charity.
Dates for the shows are -

2nd May - Open Show | |

4th July - Summer Open Show | |

19th September - Annual Derby Showjumping Show |
14th January 2010 - Happy New Year, we would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2010 and we hope to see you all at our shows this year. What a start to the 2010, the weather has certainly made it an interesting year so far. We have been very lucky here at Burnockmill as although we have had snow lying for around 3 weeks now the conditions have not really affected the horses too much. They have still been going in the field as often as they have wanted to and the indoor school has been a godsend for the the owners that have braved the cold and kept the horses ticking over in preperation for the coming show season. Some of the braver liveries have also been enjoying riding in the fields and the horses have enjoyed playing in the snow.
Heres a few snowy pics taken over the last few weeks -

We hope everyone else has managed in these extreme conditions and that all the horses are warm and happy.
8th Dec - Well, another year is drawing to an end, which means the festive season is upon us. So we would like to take this opportunity to say Merry Christmas and wish you all the best for the New Year. We would also like to thank everyone who has been involved at Burnockmill for their support over the last year and we hope to see you all for more fun and enjoyment in 2010. Please check our events page in the New Year for our show dates for 2010. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
20th Oct - With winter fast approaching, and the clocks changing, the nights are fair drawing in. But with our jumps relocated to our large floodlit arena, there's no need to stop riding! The outdoor arena is available for hire for £20 per hour or £25 with lights. Feel free to give us a call or email for further details.
24th Sept - We are proud to announce the arrival of the first Burnockmill Puppies. Raasay our 3yo black labrador, gave birth to 4 gorgeous black puppies a few weeks ago. Raasay is a fantastic mum and the puppies are doing well.
8th Sept - After a lot of thinking and much consideration, it is with regret we have decided to cancel our Derby Show, scheduled for 20th September. This action has been taken primarily due to the awful weather of late. With the amount of rain that has fallen we have been unable to do the necessary work needed to get the fields up to the standard that we would like to achieve. Further to this, and more importantly, we feel that the jumping field would not have sufficient time to dry out enough to ensure the safety of horses and riders. With limited hard standing parking, another consideration is the ability to get vehicles in and out of the parking field in a safe manner, and without damage to vehicles. Anyone competing elsewhere over the last couple of months will appreciate how much damage and mess can be created.
We hope that all who planned to attend will understand that this was not an easy decision as we really enjoy holding these events. Unfortunately, we have no control over the weather, but we are working on it!
Please take a note of our show dates for 2010. We will endeavour to make sure that the events take place.
Open Charity Show - 2nd May - In aid of Ayrshire Hospice
Open Charity Show - 4th July - In aid of Ayrshire Hospice
Derby Showjumping -19th Sept
5th Sept - Check out the Welsh Pony page for updates on the Stud and ponies for sale. Also the first Burnockmill Puppies arrived, Raasay our Black labrador delivered 4 black puppies - 2 dogs and 2 bitches on 17th August. We have 2 dogs still available to good homes.
24th Aug - The schedule for the Derby showjumping on Sunday 20th September is now available. Please go to Events page for more information.
1st Aug - Well apologies for the delay in updating the news page. July was a very busy month here at Burnockmill with the Open Show, Stuart and Sandra's wedding and the arrival of our final foal for 2009. The show was a huge success and we were very lucky with the weather. We were delighted with the turnout on the day and hope that everyone had a good enjoyable day. Full results available here. Link to photographs taken on the day here.
20th June - Preparations for the show are well under way now. Anyone wishing to pre-enter via email, and take advantage of the reduced entry fee, please contact us and we will send you the relevant entry form.
10th June - The schedules for the July Show are now available. Please click here to download.
8th June - After a sad day on Friday with Mouse (Annavale Brier) sadly losing her foal, her big sister has made us smile again by producing the first Burnockmill filly named Burnockmill Bambi. This tiny little chestnut Welsh Part Bred is by Barleith Studs Windale Willow the Wisp and will hopefully go on to be a successful show pony. Both mum and foal are doing well and are now out getting to know Iona and her colt Barney. Will hopefully get some good photos soon and the Stud section of the website which is under construction will hopefully be up to date soon.
26th May - The jumping paddock is now available for hire, at £20 per hour or £10 per horse for 4 or more horses, and our Tuesday night clear round schooling will start next week, 2nd June. Jumping rounds are £5 per round. The field is fairly well draining but if there has been heavy rain please contact us to check ground conditions.
20th May - We are pleased to announce the arrival of Burnockmill Brigadoon (stable name Barney). Barney is our first Welsh Section C foal and is out of Lledr Lady Iona and by Parvadean Replay (who stands at Passford Stud - www.passfordcobs.com) Barney is a very confident cheeky chap who just loves people. Iona is a lovely mum and both mare and foal are doing extremely well.
Hopefully we will have some friends for Barney to play with shortly. Annavale Brier (Belle) and Fayrefield Morning Mist (Mouse) are both due around the 10th June. Mouse and Belle are Welsh Section A's and are both in foal to Barleith Studs Part Bred Welsh stallion. We also have Puddledub Manhattan (Maddi) a Scottish Sports horse mare who is due mid July. She is in foal to Passford Sunnay Boy (who also stands at Passford Stud but is stabled here for Alison to ride and compete this season). Looking forward to wasting lots of time foal watching.
9th May - We would like to express our thanks to everyone who came along to support the show. We hope that everyone enjoyed their day. We were very lucky with the weather as although it was cold it stayed dry throughout the day. A huge thanks to Jennifer Garland and Alison Morran for coming along to judge the showing classes and to Bill Hoggans and Lynda Cochrane for giving up their time time to steward. Also thanks to Jean and Ainslie Thomson for doing a great job with the showjumping and of course to James Sapwell for building a fab course. Thanks also to Alistair Michie for taking photographs all day - these will be sorted through in the next week and sent out to those competitors we have email addresses for. Anyone wishing photos please email us. Results can be found here.
On another note our showjumps are now out in the field and with any luck the weather will dry up enough to let us start our clear round nights again. Please check back for updates. The jumping paddock will be also be available to hire throughout the summer.
21st April - Show preperation is well underway now. The field is rolled and will be cut this week, the jumps will be getting spruced up and taken out to the field fairly soon, the rosettes are ready to be collected and the marquee is ready to be assembled. Hopefully this wonderful weather will continue and we will all have a sun soaked day.
16th April - Schedules are now available for the May Open Show.
8th March - Well we had a good start to the 2009 show season on Saturday at the BSPS Scotland show at Rowallan. Rebel went for his first ridden outing and was very well behaved all day. Did the Novice Mountain and Moorland class. Alison did a fab job riding him and he was very good apart from being fidgety in the line up, (he actually stood a lot better than expected) and doing a novicey show (to be expected from a 4 year old) After initially being pulled in top he ended up 5th, which was fair, we were very pleased with him for his first outing. Looking forward to getting him out and about this year and getting a few miles on his clock.

Alison also took Sunnay and threw herself in at the deep end and attempted the Royal International Horse Show qualifier. They were a very respectable 3rd, placed behind 2 very good much more experienced ponies.
Next show is NPS on the 4th April, looking forward to it already.
19th February - Hopefully we are now over the worst of the winter weather and there is definitely a touch of spring in the air. In the next month or so we will be getting the jumps tidied up, the fields rolled (fingers crossed for some dry weather) and the course set up. Hopefully we will be able to have our jumping ring available from April onwards. As usual you will be able to hire the jumping paddock for private use and our Tuesday night schooling sessions will be on throughout the competition season.
2nd February - The Mill redevelopment - as those of you that have been to visit us here at Burnockmill will be aware, there is an old mill building that has seen better days. We decided to redevelop it as a house for Stuart and his future wife, Sandra. Work started last July and already the building is completely transformed. Fingers crossed, the building should be habitable by the end of April. Here are a couple of photos to show the changes so far:
November 07 -
February 09 -
16th January 2009 - We hope that everybody enjoyed the festive period and wish everyone every success in 2009. With the start of the new year, the days getting longer and hopefully the weather getting better we are now looking forward to the start of the competition season. We have decided on dates for our shows this year - we have decided this year that both the May and July show will be run in aid of the Ayrshire Hospice. To date we have made £825 for the Hospice and we hope to match that this year. Please put the dates in your diary and come along and support a worthwhile cause.
3rd May - Open Show
5th July - Summer Open Show
20th September - Annual Derby Showjumping Show
10th November - Another successful show on Saturday with Rebel. Scottish Welsh Youngstock show so quite an important one. Rebel won his 2/3yo Welsh C class and went Reserve in the 2/3yo championship. He also won the youngstock mixed breed inhand and went Champion Mixed Inhand beating some very nice adults. Very pleased with him. Last show for him till he comes out ridden next year which will be exciting. Alison took her new project along to the show as well. Alison is now riding and showing Passford Sunnay Boy, who is sire to my yearling Burnockmill Kappilano and Alisons own 2 year old Penmaric Padock Parade. Sunnay was very well behaved for his first ridden show and was 2nd in a strong novice class. His good temperament and manners shone through so good luck to Alison for a very successful 2009.
4th November - Well Stuart has been busy in the last few weeks sorting out the new floodlights for the outdoor arena. They are now erected and working. It really finishes the school off nicely and the liveries have been enjoying being able to ride outside after work and enjoy the dry weather we have been having.
25th October - Had a busy weekend showing last weekend with the new boy Rhoswen Rebel and of course Nantgwinau Susanna.(Annie). Rebel was first up at the Scottish Festival of Champions held at the Scottish National Equestrian College, SNEC. Rebel won his class and then went Section Champion which meant we had to wait for the Supreme of the Day. Went in about 11.15pm and was delighted to be pulled forward as the Supreme of the Day -
We headed straight to Ingliston Equestrian Centre to stable overnight and compete in the Grand Slam the next day. Rebel was still full of it by the next morning, a little too much and was a bit too excited in his class so no results there.
Annie jumped a fab round in her workers and won her class and was also reserve champion. Delighted as we have put a lot of work into her jumping and flatwork and its finally paying off.
Annie now has a break with only a few shows over the winter while Rebel still has some youngstock shows to go to and then its full steam ahead to get him out under saddle next year. He is progressing nicely and is extremely confident so fingers crossed he'll have a successful season next year.
15th October - We are very pleased to have been given the opportunity to sponsor two local boys' football clubs.
Firstly we were able to provide the use of a minibus for the Ayr United Football Academy. For more info on this, please click on the photo below.
Secondly, we have sponsored Sorn Athletic Boys Club Under 11's. This team play their home games in Ochiltree and train locally as well at Cumnock Academy. Our sponsorship will allow them to train through the winter with floodlit facilities.
We hope that both the Academy and Sorn Boys Club enjoy successful seasons and we are proud to have helped out in some way towards achieving this.
23rd September - Saturday saw us holding our last show of the year. The Autumn Derby, our fun show, went by successfully and the weather on the day was kind to us. Unfortunately the previous months had been less kind and this led to a smaller turnout than hoped for. However, those that came seemed to enjoy themselves and we all had fun.
As usual we had the help and support of family members and friends to help make the day the success that is was. It is also the reason that we enjoy holding these shows. So for all that helped us on Saturday, a big thank you. We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did.
18th September - We are pleased to say that the Autumn Derby will be going ahead on Saturday. The ground in the grass jumping arena is fab - its a well drained field so even with all the rain the going is good. Warm up will be in the outdoor arena and parking is in the field with limited hard standing space for the lorries. A tractor will be on stand by should we have any problems. The weather forecast for tomorrow and Saturday is good so lets hope we have a good dry day and get to see some fantastic show jumping. Here's a sneaky peak at the course plan -

The photographer will be snapping away as usual so please make sure you leave an email address when you enter so we can send you the pics when they are ready.
25th August - The schedule is now online for the Autumn Derby on Saturday 20th September.
18th August - Been very busy in the last few weeks. With Autumn drawing ever closer (and dare i say Winter) we have been working out stabling for over the next 6 months. With a few new liveries coming in and the Stud numbers increasing we only have a few spaces left. Anyone wishing to know more about our Livery packages please contact us.
Plans are under way for the Derby show in September - the show will follow the same format as last year with classes for all over our Derby course. Schedule will be available very soon.
4th August - Well better late than never we are finally getting round to doing a show report for the July Show. Firstly we would like to congratulate Gemma Mason who very deservedly won the 'Jasper' Supreme of Show with her pony Greylands Little Star. It was a pleasure to award Gemma the perpetual 'Jasper' trophy which was kindly donated by Mr and Mrs Watson in memory of my first horse Jasper who i sadly lost last year. Reserve Supreme went to Aileen Singleton with her Section A filly Ceanniateach Simone. Other Champions of the day were Evelyn Crate with Fingal, Lisa Brewster who won the Working Hunter Championship with Robe Stepper, Jennifer Garland with Super Sandy who won the Ridden Horse championship and Chelsie Cummins with Wychways Escapades. In the showjumping arena Neona Hope had a good day with Maiden Ireland winning the Open Horse class and Natalie Allan also had a good day with Snoopy in the pony classes.
With the number of entries and very kind donations from competitors, family and friends we were very happy to be able to give The Ayrshire Hospice a cheque for £500. It makes the show worthwhile when such a worthy cause gains from our enjoyable day.
20th July - Finally recovering after a fantastic show day. Had a busy day and thankfully the weather was dry for most of the day. We would like to thank all helpers, stewards and judges who came along and helped make the day a huge success. Would also like to thank all the competitors for their support. A full report for the July show will be available shortly. We have had a number of enquires about show photographs, anyone who competed and would like to see photographs from the day please contact us with details of horse (description)/ rider and classes entered and we will try our best to send a selection of photos by email.
1st July - The ground is looking great for the weekend, hopefully it will stay dry but even a lot of rain should not make too much difference. Just keep fingers crossed that its good on the day. The Working Hunter course is almost completed. Hopefully everyone has fun jumping it.
25th June - Preparation for the show is well under way. The field has been cut, jumps are being prepped, rosettes, trophies, sashes and prizes are organised. All we need is good weather and of course the competitors on the day.
We have had a few judge changes, and the online schedule is now updated and correct. Judges will be as follows -
Pony showing - Mrs A Walker
Mixed Showing - Mrs J Boyd
Horse Showing - Miss L Cochrane
Working Hunter - Miss A Scott
Showjumping - Mrs J Thomson and Miss A Thomson.
6th May - We are happy to announce the commencement of our Clear Round Schooling Night. This will start again on Tuesday 13th May and will be held weekly. This will take place in our grass showjumping paddock unless very wet, in which case it will be moved to our all weather surface. The format will be casual, just turn up and do as little or as much as you want. We plan to expand this and add a more competitive edge and we are open to suggestions to make it a bigger and more fun weekly event.
15th April - After having to cancel the field based facilities the Open week was a success with the outdoor school being used most days. This would have been even busier if Kirstine had managed to get here safely. Unfortunately Kirstine had a bash in her car on her journey here and obviously we had to postpone the showing clinic. We are glad to report that Kirstine came out of her crash unscathed although her car was not so fortunate. We hope that the people booked into the clinic will be able to return on the next arranged date. We are still offering the facilities for hire at a reduced rate and are introducing a new 'loyalty scheme' Please see facilities for more details.
31st March - Regrettably we have had to take the difficult decision to remove the XC course and jumping paddock from next week's available facilities. As you will be aware it has been extremely wet lately and as such our fields are still very wet, meaning that they are unsuitable for safe and enjoyable use.
Our outdoor school will still be available and a large range of jumps available for use, and we will be on hand to help with altering heights etc.
The Kirstine Douglas clinic will still run as planned. (places still available)
We would like to extend the reduced rate offer for the XC course and jumping paddock to all first time users until further notice. Please get in touch if you require further information.
28th March - Its been a busy week this week with a number of ponies competing at various shows. A big well done to Alison who gained 2nd place in the Ridden Veteran class with Westfields Tempting Fate, Daimler has come back from injury fighting fit and is refusing to let anyone know that he is 24 years old this year. Anyone watching the Championship at Ingliston Grand Slam on Sunday would have thought he was in his prime. Our own Nantgwinau Susanna, Annie, is getting back into the swing of things after time off to have a foal. Annie was 2nd in the Workers at the Hunt Show after jumping a nice, if a little exciting, clear round. Annie was then off to Kingsbarn to compete in the Festival of Champions where she was a respectable 2nd in her in hand class and a little over exuberant in her ridden - its nice to see Annie is back to her usual self.
18th March - As part of our Open Week we will be running a Showing Clinic held by Kirstine Douglas. Kirstine is involved with producing and showing both ponies and horses to the highest level. More info on Kirstine can be found here. Kirstine will be here all day on Tuesday 8th April and will be available to teach both group (up to 3 people) and private lessons in both flatwork and jumping. Please ontact us for more information or to book a place. Places will be limited. We hope that this clinic will become a regular session so anybody wanting to come and watch for future reference will be most welcome.
25th February - We would like to announce that we are holding a Facilities Open Week during the Easter Holidays. All of our facilities will be available at reduced rates. Please see our Facilities for more details.
12th February - At long last the sun has come out for more than 5 minutes, the fields are slightly drier, horses are actually enjoying being out and we can start to think about the summer ahead. That is if we actually get a summer this year! We will shortly be starting to prepare the schedule for our first show. As last year was the first one we did quite a basic schedule of classes. We would like to expand this year so if anyone has any suggestions/requests for classes then please contact us and let us know.
7th January 2008 - We would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and we hope that 2008 is kind to you and all your 4 legged friends. With the festive season past, and the shortest day been and gone, its time again to start preparing for the 2008 competition season. After running 2 successful shows in 2007 we have decided to expand and run 3 shows this summer. Please add the dates to your diary and should you wish to be sent schedules by email, please join our mailing list
4th May - our 2nd annual Charity Show, which will, again, be run in aid of the Ayrshire Hospice.
6th July - an Open Show, incorporating showing, showjumping and cross country.
20th September - our 2nd annual Derby Showjumping Show.
